Hand Surgery Ltd. - Giving Back

At Hand Surgery Ltd., we believe that we’re all connected either through work, play, community, sports, the arts, or worship. We all have a vested interest in strengthening the communities that we live and work in. Our employees believe in giving back and walking along side those that may be experiencing difficulties or personal trials.

About seven years ago, we decided that in lieu of contributing money for holiday gifts for our physicians, we would contribute the money and donate it to a charitable organization.  The physicians in our group have rotated the opportunity to select the charity that we support. Over the years we have supported a range of causes and organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the Milwaukee Center for Independence, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Sojourner Truth House. In addition to the "gift" money, we began coming up with creative ways to raise other funds.  Each year we have managed to out do the total funds raised the previous year.

This year we focused our attention on our local Ronald Mc Donald House, which provides a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children being treated at the Milwaukee area hospitals. Despite the poor economy and other financial hardships, we were able to raise over $3400 through the organization of a bake sale, turkey dinner, chili luncheon, caramel apple day, "scary cookie" sale, and a dress down Packer football day. Dr. Curtis Crimmins decided to raise pledges for a rowing machine adventure. He accomplished his goal of rowing 128.1 miles.

Our employees expressed the true spirit of giving with donations of "raffle" items for our silent raffle held at our year end party.  One of our Occupational Therapists, who designs and makes her own jewelry, agreed to donate 15% of her sales to the fundraiser.  Two of our physicians and a few outside sales reps agreed to match the sponsor donations for the rowing adventure.    Another one of our employees, who continues to remain anonymous, placed a large bowl of candy bars in the kitchen to sell for the fundraiser.  We also worked with a kitchen supply company that agreed to donate a portion of the sales to our fundraiser.  In addition to the cash, which was donated to restock the "Take N Go" pantry at the Ronald Mc Donald House, several of our employees also donated toys, games and craft items for the children that stay at the Ronald Mc Donald House.

Our employees are continuing the charitable efforts by cooking and serving a Family Dinner for the residents at the house.

Hand Surgery Ltd is a group of seven hand and upper extremity specialists supported by 45 employees.  We offer five convenient clinic locations: Mayfair, Greenfield, Glendale, Waukesha and Franklin.
