Occupational Therapy
What is a Certified Hand Therapist?
Our therapy team currently consists of 10 full time and part time occupational therapists, of which nine are also certified hand therapists. Occupational therapists have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in OT. An occupational or physical therapist who strives to become a certified hand therapist goes through a process of experience, learning, and testing.
To qualify to become a certified hand therapist, one must have been in practice after graduation for at least 5 years and have 4000 hours experience in treating hand and upper extremity patients. After that, a therapist becomes eligible to take an extensive board exam to become a Certified Hand Therapist. The exam is quite comprehensive, ensuring a level of knowledge that will lead to the high level quality of care that we provide.
